You Can't Judge A Book By Its Cover #325

- You can't judge a book by its cover - which is very true.
But you can like one cover version better than another...

US cover
UK cover
Val McDermid is known as Britain’s Queen of Crime. She is indeed one of my fave mystery/police procedural authors. She writes a number of series. Still Life is the 6th entry in her Karen Pirie Series. The US cover is on the left and the UK cover is on the right. The water is featured on both covers. One is depicted in a busier locale - I have to believe that significant bridge on the US cover gets lots of use. At first glance I thought the bright fish pots on the US cover was a blanket! Ominous skies on both, but the blue on the US cover seems too fake for me.  A quieter tone on the UK cover, which I quite like. That seemingly never ending view is strangely appealing to me. The empty boat has lots of possibilities. So an easy choice this week - UK cover. What about you? Which cover do you prefer? Any plans to read Still Life?
You Can't Judge A Book By Its Cover is a regular feature at A Bookworm's World

I agree with you about the US cover. I thought it was knitting yarn - ha! Anyway, I vote for the UK cover. I've read some of this author's books, but I've not yet started this particular series. One that I want to begin at some point.

Wow, that’s fantastic that she’s continuing this series. Think I read the first couple over 10 yrs ago.
The UK cover definitely wins it for me. Love the moody sky with the seemingly deserted beach & the bird flying overhead.
Can’t wait to read this one ;-)

Kay, yes I can see it being yarn as well! At some point....I hear ya!

Icewineanne - I've kept up with her as the writing is just so good - going to see if library has it on audio.

UK looks like a winner this week.

I do have some catching up before I read this one. Think I left off at ‘Skeleton’. Can’t remember if I read that one so I’ll go back & re-read it in the next couple of weeks. Chuffed that you reminded me about this series. At the present moment there is no greater thrill for me than to have more books to read by Val McDermid ;-D

Icewineanne - I find I often forget the details, but know I enjoyed a book when someone asks. The one thing I rarely do is re-read! I agree, anything she writes is really good. Enjoy!
