You Can't Judge A Book By Its Cover #204

You can't judge a book by its cover - which is very true.
But you can like one cover version better than another.

US cover
UK cover
I am fan of Ruth Ware and am looking forward to her forthcoming novel, The Death of Mrs. Westaway, releasing the end of May in NA and the end of June in the UK. The US cover is on the left and the UK cover is on the right. The first thing I notice is black and white vs a colour cover. The images are also very different, subtle vs. a somewhat overt image - mysterious old mansion. And a lone figure walking into danger. And if you were still unsure, the tagline spells it out for you. Easy choice for me this week - US. I like the black and white and the more restrained image. The 'danger' is still there in the spider web, the iron gate and the ravens. And the title speaks for itself. What about you? Which cover do you prefer? Any plans to read The Death of Mrs. Westaway?

I agree - the black and white gives it a spookier feel.

I'm definitely a bigger fan of the US cover this week. Love that iron gate shot. Gives the reader more room to imagine the rest. And I can't believe we in NA are getting it first. At last! LOL

US wins! Love the ravens & wrought iron fence. Although the tag line on the UK cover is intriguing:)
Happy Easter!

Bermudaonion - yes, sometimes less is more - and the black and white proves that out this week.

Kay - tall iron gates are spooky! Yes, hard to believe we're getting it first!

Icewineanne - Even with a meh cover, I would pick it up - it's Ruth Ware!

So far 4/4 for the US cover!

So funny, I do like the US cover, but the UK cover with the mansion in the mist. It makes me think of what is in the mansion. When I look at the figure, I see someone walking with determination. Although I must admit it at first looked like someone walking away, leaving something behind. I had to actually blow it up to see that the person was walking towards this structure. :) There is confrontation in it for me. I also like that there is a light that we can see in the top floor and there is a shadow there. I can think up all kinds of possibilities.

No matter the cover though, I will read it. Love Ruth Ware! :)

Kelly - I usually go with my first impression, but your insights had me taking a second look and I can see what you mean.

Binabug - another vote for the US cover! Thanks for stopping by.

Dianna - I think it's on a lot of TBR lists!
