- You can't judge a book by its cover - which is very true.
But you can like one cover version better than another...

"'The Upstairs Room is the real thing. Frightening and clever and full of atmosphere.' - Susan Hill." The Upstairs Room is Kate Murray-Browne's debut novel. The US cover is on the left and the UK cover is on the right. Okay - both use dark tones and seem creepy. It's interesting that the US cover is looking from outside. The teal colour of the sky and shadow on the front of the house is quite bold and does catch your eye along with the yellow. The house. Why do we find a single lit room so mysterious I wonder? The UK cover is a view from inside with a shadow from the light outside. To me, the predominantly black cover just says something's is hiding or is hidden. I'm torn again this week, but am going to go with the US cover this week. I find it visually more interesting.
What about you? Which cover do you prefer?

I'm going to go with the UK cover because I don't think the US cover looks mysterious enough. Maybe it's the color choices - they seem too cheerful. LOL
Okay, one vote for each so far....
My eye was drawn to the US cover too. I'm not sure either gives too much indication about what is going to happen in the story, but maybe that's for the best with this kind of book.
US this week!
US wins it for me also! Love the colours. Like the style of print on the UK cover is but it definitely wouldn’t be a good fit for the US cover.
The quote from Joanna Cannon seals the deal for me. Her first book The Trouble With Goats and Sheep was brilliant, one of my all time favourites.
Oddly this book was released 3 yrs ago in July 2017. Wonder how I missed it. Our library doesn’t have copies so ordered a cheap paperback from the UK.
Cheers & happy reading!
Icewineanne - Joanna Cannon is new to me - I'll be looking up your fave.
Hope you love it as much as I did!
