You Can't Judge A Book By Its Cover #317

- You can't judge a book by its cover - which is very true.
But you can like one cover version better than another...

US cover
UK cover
The 25th entry - The Sentinel - in Lee Child's Jack Reacher series releases in late fall of this year. And there will be another author listed as well. Child is  passing the character and future books off to his younger author brother Andrew. The Sentinel will be a joint effort. The US cover is on the left and the UK cover is on the right. Roads, bridges, travel - all of these are part of Jack's world. I really like the overpasses on the US cover. They form an X which seems fitting. After all, an X represents the unknown. But the bridge is good as well - unknown destinations, burning bridges, bridge over troubled waters? The greens used in the UK cover do draw my eye a bit more. Previous UK cover in this series have also used a solitary figure on the cover. But, the absence of anything but the road on the US cover does appeal to me. What's at the end of the road? On the road? A tough call this week, but I'm going to go with the US cover.
What about you? Which cover do you prefer? Any plans to read The Sentinel?
You Can't Judge A Book By Its Cover is a regular feature at A Bookworm's World.

I didn't realize Child was passing on the character, but I can certainly understand why. It seems like he has tired of writing these stories, and after 25 novels I think that is understandable. I'm not sure that I'm a fan of keeping things going though. It seems like these franchise characters just don't ever get a proper ending anymore.

Oh, and I think the green UK cover draws me in just a bit more than the US.

I've got several Lee Child books but to date I haven't read them yet. On my bucket list. I kinda like the UK cover best but what do I know.

Have you read "Killers of the Flower Moon or Buried Deep" I'd like to hear what you think of these books.

A very good point Ethan and true for many iconic series. Spenser, Poirot and some others.

Carla, I've not read either of those books - are they ones you recommend?

And so far, I'm in the minority this week. Two to one for the UK cover.

Although it’s not a series I pick is the UK the lights & benches along the bridge, also the green & yellow colours are really eye catching.
The empty highways on the US cover remind me too much of our stay-at-home covid times.

Icewineanne - I have fallen behind in the series as well. Another vote for the UK puts me squarely in the minority this week!
