You Can't Judge A Book By Its Cover #328

- You can't judge a book by its cover - which is very true.
But you can like one cover version better than another...

US cover
UK cover
Tana French is a brilliant writer. I've enjoyed all of her books and am looking forward to the Oct./Nov. release of The Searcher. The US cover is on the left and the UK cover is on the right. The title alone says there's someone or something missing. Both covers seem to suggest a where. The heavy clouds and seemingly endless field are a place to get lost in. I like the overall green tone - for me it says a storm is brewing. The stark black and white of the UK cover is very effective. Again there is an endless forest behind the isolated cabin. I do wish there wasn't the one lit window - that's been overdone. They're both really great looks, but I'm going to go with the US cover this week. What about you?
Any plans to read The Searcher? Which cover do you prefer?

  1. I love Tana French's books and yes, I'll be reading this one. I vote for the US cover. That green - kind of like what the sky might turn when a tornado is near - and I know that from personal experience having lived in Texas most of my life. This is a standalone book isn't it? Wonder if she's every going to return to the Dublin Murder Squad? Just curious because I love them.

  2. Hi Kay - yes it is a stand alone. But I've been wondering about the Dublin Murder Squad as well. I'd like to see another in that series. Regardless of what she writes, I know it will be great! Ahh, yes, I can see tornado in that cover shot.

So far two for the US cover....

  4. A vote for the UK cover makes it 2 to 1....

Icewineanne - I've never thought of ordering from the UK...is the shipping crazy?

  5. I order from Book Depositary (https://www.bookdepository.com/ ), the shipping is free to anywhere in the world.
And prices shown are exactly what you’ll pay, no additional charges.
You must try it. It takes a few weeks to get your order because they send it out by Royal Mail, but the prices for most books, especially the ones published in the UK, Europe & Australia are much cheaper than what you’ll find here. I ordered Tana French’s Wych Elm ($12 Cdn) from them because I wanted to read the book as it was written and not have an “Americanized” copy of it.
    Cheers!

  6. Well hello Book Depository! Thanks for the info Icewineanne. Twelve book and free shipping for Wych Elm is a great deal. And...it's the original title and not Witch Elm.
