You can't judge a book by its cover - which is very true.
But you can like one cover version better than another...

I'm jumping up and down here! A new book is coming from Ruth Ware. One By One releases in the late Fall 2020. The US cover is on the left and the UK cover is on the right. "A company retreat gone wrong... " Both covers employ the same mountainous setting. The US has a much stronger avalanche image. The chalet is obliterated on the US cover (if there was an image), while the UK gives us a clear look at it. And one lone figure walking towards it. I like that somewhat ominous figure. As always, the UK cover employs a tagline that lets the potential reader have an idea of what they'll find inside. So, that's my deciding element for this week - UK for me. What about you?
Which cover do you prefer? Any plans to read One By One?
You Can't Judge A Book By Its Cover is a regular feature at A Bookworm's World.
I agree that the UK cover looks like the winner this week. It seems more in line with the kind of books Ware has written in the past. She isn't really known for the high action that the US version seems to portray.
ReplyDeleteVery good point about the action Ethan. She does a slow atomospheric build.
ReplyDeleteI'll pick the US cover. I do like the avalanche scene. And I think it's interesting that the two covers are sort of mirror images in the font colors. In any case, I definitely will be reading this book. Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteUK wins it for me.
ReplyDeleteJudging by the title & tag line, it sounds like the UK drawing would be a better match for the story inside. They seem to imply a tale similar to the classic ‘And Then There Were None’. The US cover seems to depict more of an adventure story rather than a mystery.
Can’t wait to get a copy of this :-D
Icewineanne - I love a Agatha style 'locked' room mystery. And it's gonna be a good read!
ReplyDeleteKay, they are indeed mirror images. And Kay's vote makes it 3 to 1 for the UK cover this week.
