You Can't Judge A Book By Its Cover #108

- You can't judge a book by its cover - which is very true.
But you can like one cover version better than another....

US cover
UK cover
Well, I can never get enough of thrillers! Two very different looks for Shari Lapena's forthcoming book The Couple Next Door. The US cover is on the left and the UK cover is on the right.  An easy choice for me this week - UK. I know that's a woman's silhouette on the US cover, but it's too dark and somehow just too messy for me. And that line of type under the word door and above the author's name almost looks like fangs. I like the colour of the UK cover, the rainy glass wiped away looking at another house and as always, a great tagline. Which cover do you prefer? Any plans to read The Couple Next Door? You Can't Judge A Book By Its Cover is a regular feature at A Bookworm's World.

  1. I like the UK cover too and I'm wondering why there would be a silhouette of one person on the cover of a book with couple in the title.

  2. I like the UK cover, too, especially the wiped off glass look. The colors of it remind me of another book cover that I like. I agree that everything is a little too messy with the US cover. Too messy and too dark.

  3. Definitely the UK cover. I would have given the US cover a second look but now after seeing the UK I have put this on my TBR list. Thanks!

  4. I'm new to your blog, but follow your reviews on GR and LOVE this feature. I'll be the odd woman out and vote for the US cover, not in a fit of imperialism, but because the cover art is the same image as on Shelter by Jung Yun published earlier this year. Slightly different cropping, a bit more blur, but a copy cat and I'll not vote for that.

  5. Hey Victoria - thanks for all your kind words. There's no way I would have caught that. Interesting - makes you wonder how many times an image can be purchased and used.

  6. Thanks for responding Luanne. I'm in marketing so I know a wee bit about this. Exclusive use of an image is prohibitively expensive (if offered at all), so most images can be sold by an individual or enterprise (such as Getty) as many times as someone will pay. I've been involved in ad campaigns where all of the competitors in a category have used the same image to convey the same message, so unoriginal and so embarrassing. Haha.
