- You can't judge a book by its cover - which is very true.
But you can like one cover version better than another.....

M.C. Beaton's Hamish MacBeth series is a favourite cozy mystery series of mine. The 31st book (!) Death of a Nurse, releases later this month. The US cover is on the left and the UK cover is on the right. Hmm...given the water on the cover, I'd say that drowning might be the cause of the death? There's a 'style' the US covers that's been very consistent in regards to font and style with past books. I've actually never looked at the UK covers before now. I think I might prefer the picture on the UK cover better, but prefer the font on the US cover. It's interesting that it's a 'mystery' on the US cover, but a 'murder mystery' on the UK cover. So, I think it's a tie for me this week. Any plans to catch up with Hamish?

I do think the US cover was designed to go with the rest of the series but think I prefer the UK cover.
ReplyDeleteI like the UK cover too, interesting about the use of 'murder mystery'. Can't believe this is number 31! Personally, I have a lot of catching up to do--I always figure they are there when I need a book to fill in.
ReplyDeleteI prefer the UK version. The US one is a tad busy.
ReplyDeleteI like the US cover with lighthouse, but are there striped lighthouses near where Hamish lives? Just wondering. I've not ever read any of this series. I have read several of her Agatha Raisin books. I like Agatha.
ReplyDeleteHow timely! At our monthly tea & books discussion yesterday, one of the monthly book picks, the presenter recommended, was the Hamish MacBeth series. Of course I'm familiar with the series (in name only) & the tv series, but I've actually never read one of these. Well now I'm determined to recify that. Will begin with the 1st one, Death of a Gossip.
ReplyDeleteFor this cover I prefer the US cover. As another reader mentioned, it matches the other covers in the series.
Thanks for the nudge :-)
Looks like a split decision for this one. Watch for my review - and a giveaway - on Tuesday Feb 23rd if you'd like to own a copy!
