You can't judge a book by its cover - which is very true
But you can like one cover version better than another...

I've not read Jane Harper before, but a blurb from Val McDermid has me thinking I should. Harper's new book The Survivors comes out at the top of next year. The US cover is on the left and the UK cover is on the right. "When a body is discovered on the beach, long-held secrets threaten to emerge in the murder investigation that follows. A sunken wreck, a missing girl, and questions that have never washed away..." Well, with that snippet, both covers seem well matched to the story inside". The US cover is a long shot of a flat coastline. The UK cover seems to be looking down from a cliff perhaps with a cave? The sea is much calmer on the US shot while the UK waves seem much more dangerous. The dark sky on the US cover does seem ominous. I think both covers are good this week, but I like the UK cover just a bit better. What about you? Any plans to read The Survivors? Which cover do you prefer? You Can't Judge A Book By Its Cover is a regular feature at A Bookworm's World.

After reading the blurb you included with the cover pics, I agree with you. The UK cover seems to fit the story.
The US cover is one we’ve seen often over the past year. Even with the ominous clouds, the beach itself seems too calm with a couple of people lounging/walking on the shore. It certainly doesn’t scream sunken wreck to me - LOL
The energy of the waves & fantastic rock formation on the UK cover, really sparks imagination, so it’s my winner this week.
People were raving about The Dry (+ it won a bunch of awards) so I expected something rather brilliant. After reading it, I was very surprised at all the accolades it had received. I found it to be a good, fairly standard procedural but nothing earth shattering. I also read Force of Nature, loved the setting but again, not a ‘must-read book.
Really looking forward to your thoughts on this one Luanne. In spite of not being wowed by her priors, I will read this one, who knows, this might be the book that surprises.
I really enjoy your take on the covers Icewineanne! Hmm, I think it may drop a little on the list from your take on them. Thanks for the input!
This standalone sounds very good, I love books that include unsolved mysteries from the past. And the Aaron Falk series isn’t bad, just not worthy of all the five star ratings it received.
Harper’s descriptions of the Australian outback & wilderness in the first two books are excellent, but the mysteries themselves, not as brilliant. After reading them, you might very well think that my three star rating is far too low. Fingers crossed that this new one is as good as it sounds.
Cheers & happy reading!
I read this one, but my ARC had the US cover. I didn't see the UK cover until your post. Definitely the UK cover!
Lucky you getting an ARC Dianna - did you enjoy the book?
UK for the win on this one.
